Last Thursday my son and I drove south for eleven hours to San Ramon for a visit with my daughter. We took her pup with us and spent some of our time in the several dog parks in the Tri-Valley area and lots of time on short dog walks. Saturday we took the short drive into San Francisco to wander through the Farmers Market, The Ferry Building and a tour of Alcatraz. I love having the time to spend with both kids. Lots of laughing and catching up with one anothers' lives.
Love the flower stalls
We had a great Mexican breakfast of Chilaquiles Verdes, outside with a view of the Bay Bridge
We took a short, but cold, windy boat ride out to Alcatraz and enjoyed the audio tour that was included in our ticket price
Home to a number of famous prisoners including Al Capone and ‘Machine Gun’ Kelly
Alcatraz was an interesting culture of prisoners in a high security federal penitentiary and the families of the wardens and prison guards. The grounds included what remains of social halls, apartments and the headquarters to the prison.
San Francisco is just a mile across the water, giving the prisoners a constant reminder of what they were missing.
Another eleven hour drive and we’re back home. Lots of driving, good food, happy visits and of course dog slobber.
