It’s finally opening day of the Beaverton Farmers Market. One of the largest markets in the Northwest and so close to home that we could easily walk or bike ride, but we know we’ll be bringing home several bags of produce, meat and berries so we opt to drive. We attempt to arrive early but spend time winding our way up and down the neighborhood streets, eventually ending up parking in the high school parking lot and walking several blocks to our destination. Oh well, it’s a perfectly beautiful morning and that’s why everyone has come to celebrate. I love seeing people so happy to be out shopping for their food. It’s crowded yet there’s no crabby edgy feeling; just a wonderful community atmosphere. It’s fun to see what the new vendors are offering this year and of course visit our favorites. There are stalls with many varieties of tomato plants which makes me think I must go home and prepare the beds to accept them.
There are beers, wines, gluten free everything, honey, meat, fish, wild game, eggs, and vegetables. The market holds the vendors to high standards and all produce must be farm fresh, direct from a local grower, and grown, raised, produced or collected in Oregon or Washington.
We carefully plan our evening meal to include fresh line caught halibut, roasted red pepper hummus, strawberries and hand made beer. I’ll work in the garden this afternoon then we’ll enjoy our Oregon fresh meal. So nice to have the market open again. Spring has really arrived!
Just for fun I’ll be showing off this and this at Funky Junk Interiors this weekend. Follow the link to see what’s happening over there. Have a sunny, happy Saturday everyone!
