This cake might not look too different from any other chocolate cake but I’m warning you it could be quite dangerous. It takes only five minutes to make and you probably have everything you need already in your kitchen pantry. A friend sent me the recipe. I don’t know where she got it but I’ve found it to be the perfect small portion when you or someone in the house is craving a sweet treat.
It made in the microwave in a coffee mug. It’s big enough to share if you’re into that kind of thing. I suggest mixing it in a separate bowl or measuring cup to make sure the ingredients are blended well. I like it because I can use good quality ingredients instead of getting a quickie cake mix, processed and full of questionable additives.
As the weather turns cooler there are evenings where you just want to curl up with something sweet and warm. I suggest this cake. If you happen to have ice cream around, well, there you go.
Chocolate Cake in a Mug
4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg beaten
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 large (Micro Safe) coffee mug
Add dry ingredients to small bowl and mix. Add the egg and blend thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and stir until you have a creamy batter.
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract; mix again.
Pour the mixture into your mug and place in microwave. Cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts (high).
The cake will rise over the top of the mug while cooking but that’s normal.
Allow to cool for about a minute then tip out onto a plate if desired.
After trying it you will understand why it’s dangerous…because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake.
Enjoy! (of course!!)
Janet, this is brilliant. Thank you so much for sharing! I can't wait to try this...I'm off to the store to buy some cocoa powder!
