As I took my walk this morning I remembered what I always think of in August; everything is purple. I began taking pictures as I walked and sure enough, everything from Lavenders to Asters to the color of the fading Clematis.
Of course there’s the dark yellow of the Sunflowers and Black-eyed Susan's, but gone are the baby pinks and blues of spring. Curiously enough the dark yellows are the complimentary color of purple on the color wheel. Hmmm, Mother Nature is onto something!
I enjoy seeing what nature decides for us. It’s like these colors grouped together to herald out the summer. No need for surprises, now everything works together. They’re deep bold colors that can stand up to the sun.
From the soft purple of the pincushion plant to the cool orchid of the ice plant, August is like the purple section in a big box of crayons.
It’s a great time to plan for next fall. Look at your yard, study the neighbors yard, then check out the nursery. Make notes. In spring we’re always so giddy, we plant what’s blooming in the nursery---Spring flowers. Save some of the fun for fall.
